Pricing
Since each portrait has its own unique characteristics (e.g., background complexity, larger animals, more than one animal, framing, etc.), varying features will factor into the portrait cost. The base prices of $155.00 for black and white and $255.00 for color offer you a basic idea of what to expect (see How much will your portrait cost?). After I know more about your desires, I will send you my quote via email. Although prices can change, my email quote will remain good for one month. Should you agree to start within the month, the quote will remain final until I complete the portrait.

Please note that all art sold in Pennsylvania is subject to a 6% sales tax, which I will include in my email quote to Pennsylvania residents. After I begin your pet portrait and you have received the first two progress photos (see What can you expect?), I will request 1/3rd of the total cost as a down payment. Once I complete the portrait and you receive and approve a photo, I will request you to pay the remainder of the cost prior to pickup or shipping.

I will email all payment requests to you. Unless otherwise arranged, I only accept payments via major credit cards (see Payment for details).

Shipping & Handling
You may pick up your pet portrait at my studio location, or I can ship it to you for an additional charge. Please note that shipping and handling costs will likely fluctuate depending on your location. Also, I do not ship framed pet portraits due to the substantial increase in cost. Having your pet portrait framed at your local shop will serve you much better.

To ensure your portrait arrives safely and in good condition, I spray it with a professional archival quality fixative by Winsor & Newton. This will protect against smudging and future light exposure. I will then place the portrait in an acid free moisture resistant glassine envelope, sandwich it between two pieces of foamboard, and place it between two pieces of heavy carboard. Finally, I will place the securely wrapped portrait in a mailing container and ship to you via UPS or USPS (note: if you do not let me know your preference, I will use the least expensive of the two shipping methods).

I charge $35.00 for handling, which includes securing the art for shipping, packaging materials, and my travel costs. Postage charges are additional and will vary depending on your location.

Purchase Agreement

While you always own the original portrait, I reserve all rights to make prints of the portrait, sell any reproductions, and to display the portrait on the web. Once I send you the first two progress photos and you agree via email to move forward, I request 1/3rd of the cost before continuing. Your satisfaction at every step along the way is important to me (see Cancellations & Returns for more detail). Payment is due via an accepted credit card at pickup or prior to shipping (see Pricing for more detail — or go to the Payment page).

Cancellations & Returns

First and foremost, I want you completely satisfied with your pet portrait! However, I know the unexpected can happen. I have therefore created an opportunity for cancellations and returns. I remain open to discussing any questions or issues of concern.

Cancellation Policy: If for some reason you don’t want to continue the commission agreement after viewing the first two progress photos (they typically include an outline and positioning of your pet in the portrait and the completion of their eyes), you may cancel further work at no cost. Because portraits are very labor intensive, if you choose to continue after reviewing the first two progress photos, I will ask for a nonrefundable down payment. At any time during the remaining process, you may cancel the commission via email. I will confirm your cancellation via email reply.

Return Policy: I will request the final payment before shipping your pet portrait. If within one week of receiving the final portrait you are not completely satisfied, you may return it to me, but you will agree to take responsibility for the shipping costs and the condition of the returned work upon my receiving it. Once received, I will refund the final payment based on my condition assessment less my initial shipping and handling costs.
